DESCONTROLADOS - S/T EP (1988)

Another discovery from the South America comp, this time from Ecuador. Originally released in 1988 on 12" and cassette, this was ripped from the 2006 bootleg 7" reissue. Is it just me or does the guy on the left kinda resemble Joey Shithead?
1. Aburrimento
2. Pobre Charles Darwin
3. Repression Policial
4. Universidad

LOS INVASORES - El Ejecutivo EP (2006)

One of my favourite discoveries from that 80's South American cassette comp I posted back in September. These guys never released anything during their time except for 2 songs on the 1987 Uruguay compilation 'Rock 3'. This 7" features four songs from their 1986 demo.

SCISSORS - S/T EP (1982)

Here's some more catchy local power pop for your ass! I tracked down this band's sole release after playing their song "Underwear Wolf" from the "Hollow Weiners" 7-inch on my radio show last month.
1. Do You Like It?
2. Nadine
3. Summer Girls
4. Wrecked My Car
5. Don't Call Me Chick
6. All This And More

THE WARDELLS - Now LP (1988)

I recently found this record sealed at a stereo shop in Surrey. Power pop/college rock from Victoria made up of ex-members of Pink Steel and future members of The Sweaters. Produced by Bill Napier-Hemy of The Pointed Sticks.

KLIMAX - 84-86 LP (2004)

Lesser-known Finnish punk band who recorded two demos in the mid 80's but never officially released anything at the time. They did appear on a few comps, most notably 'Finnish Spunk/Hard Beat'. If you dig that classic Suomi punk sound, I'm sure you'll dig these guys too.

VA - Lest We Forget tape (1991)

Originally released by Cometbus fanzine in 1991, this collection of rare and unreleased recordings of Berkeley bands from the 80's features future members of Rancid, Green Day, Neurosis and more. It was reissued this year as a bonus tape with the soundtrack of the documentary, 'Turn It Around: The Story Of East Bay Punk'.

VA - Crumbling Concrete And Rusted Iron tape (2018)

For the most part this comp pretty much sounds like how you'd expect Soviet punk from the 80's to sound like. It's almost as if some of these bands saw pictures of punks in a magazine or newspaper and then tried to create music based on those photos what they think punk rock must sound like. If that makes any sense at all.

VA - Punk From Medellín, Colombia 1987-1992 tape (2018)

Where as last week's comp covered bands from all over South America, this tape focuses strictly on the hardcore, punk & metal scene of Medellín, Colombia in the late 80's to early 90's. The liner notes on the cover above says it all.

VA - South American Punk 81-90 tape (2018)

Another great cassette comp featuring bands from places I bet you never thought punk rock existed in the 80's such as Uruguay, Chile and Ecuador.

VA - Greek Punk '82 - '91 tape (2018)

I bought this  tape out of curiosity as I've never really heard much punk rock coming out of Greece, with the exception of a few newer bands. Whoever put this comp together did a good job of curating these songs from various demo tapes and out of print records. Definitely worth a listen. OPA!

GO FOUR 3 - S/T MLP (1985)

Some catchy local power pop/indie rock who definitely should've gone farther than they did. 'Just Another Day' had the makings of being a huge hit in my opinion. Ex-Modernettes Ian Noble played drums on this record but wasn't in the group for long. I recently found this record sealed at a shop on Vancouver Island which included a sticker and a Zulu Records insert. They released a full length album in 1987 called Six Friends, also on Zulu. Surprised no one's given this band the ol' reissue treatment.

1. Just Another Day
2. Death Of Love
3. Waiting For A Train
4. In My Dreams
5. Look Away
6. Go Four 3

Okay, last entry of this month's Havoc Records spotlight with a band fronted by the man that runs the label, Felix Havoc.

PATH OF DESTRUCTION - 1:00 AM EP (2003)

"Minneapolis hardcore crust punk at it's most tough and brutal. This band started originally with Chad of Calloused on Drums, Link of Pontious Pilate on bass, Big Rick of Code 13, Rat Bastards, Dead Drunk, Motherfuckers, Impulse Manslaughter etc. on guitar and Andy Hefner on vocals. They recorded a 7" for Sin Fronteras and a split ep with Minneapolis metallic crust core band Provoked. Path of Destruction also toured Europe and the USA with this line up. Andy left and was replaced by Pignose of Assrash on vocals. Since the days of Hell Spawn I've thought Pignose had the most punk as fuck vocal delivery. The main influence here is Poison Idea and when you spin this sucker you will Feel the Darkness. But it's hard to really nail these guys down as punk, hardcore or crust since their style really draws on elements prevalent in all three subgenres for maximum impact."

ASSEMBLY OF GOD - Submission Obedience Denial EP (2001)

Screamy hardcore from Oklahoma featuring members of Brother Inferior and Burnpile. And when I say screamy I don't mean screamo, so don't worry.

UNITED SUPER VILLAINS - Escapist EP (1999)

Havoc Records month continues with this overlooked band from small town Wisconsin. They also had an LP out on Deranged Records too.

AUS-ROTTEN - Fuck Nazi Sympathy EP (1994)

A friend of mine was getting rid of a bunch of old 7"s so I gladly took them off his hands. Many of them happen to be released by Havoc Records so I thought I'd make August Havoc records month. Going in chronological order here's the first one, which according to the Havoc website sold 22,000 copies. Judging by all the Aus-Rotten patches I see out there I guess it's not too surprising.

THE SPITFIRES / HELL CAMINOS - Split EP (2001)

Here's a double-shot of some Vancouver punk'n'roll from the early 00's. Thanks again to Mike Hawk of the Hell Caminos for hooking me up with this 7".

THE GOP - England Sucks EP (2005)

Great snotty hardcore from Portland with vocals that sound like a cross between Nathan Strejcek (Teen Idles/Youth Brigade) and the late John Stabb (GI). I discovered this 7" from the killer ONE TRACK TO HELL blog and dug it so much I just had to have my own copy. I added a bonus track which I'm assuming is from the same session as the EP as it's the band's only other recording out there. It's off a record called "Choke On It - A 27 Band Portland Oregon Compilation". I was originally going to upload that record on here as well but my copy has a few skips on it so I figured I'd just add the GOP's song. Shame they never didn't put out anything else.

1. England Sucks
2. West Linn
3. Portland Politics
4. Who We Are
5. Ready To Die (Bonus Track)

STINKY RATS - Vergonati LP (1986)

Still on an Italian HC kick so here's yet another band I discovered through the Love/Hate compilation. Ripped from the 2009 CD reissue, minus the bonus demo and comp tracks.
1. Intro/Rifiuto
2. Spara, Prega, Compra, Uccidi
3. Uomo
4. Giorni
5. Bisogno
6. Odio
7. Non Pensare
8. Vergognati

Here's some more 80's Italian punk & hardcore for you in case volume one wasn't enough.

VA - Punk In Italia Vol. 1 CD (2005)

Compilation of Italian punk & hardcore from the 80's. Sound quality varies as many of the songs were taken straight from the original vinyl. Came with a great big fanzine with a write up about all of the bands, in Italian of course.
