THE MIGHTY IONS - Face Rakin' Rock CD (2000)

Obscure early 80's Garage rock-n-rasslin' from Boston featuring former members of UNNATURAL AXE and LE PESTE. A few of them also played on GG ALLIN's first album (Track 24 "Don't Talk To Me" was a MIGHTY IONS original). They never released anything during their existence except for "Pedro Morales" (sung to the tune of "California Uber Alles") on the 1985 compilation, 'Claws!'. Being a longtime fan of wrestling and songs about wrestling, I'm very disappointed in myself that I'm just discovering them now.

REAGAN YOUTH - Where The Hell Are You Now? EP (2019)

This Reagan Youth were a short lived hardcore band from Denver Colorado who existed between late 1981 to early '82 and were obviously unaware there was already a band in NYC with the same name. Which is understandable considering Dave Insurgent and company didn't have anything out at that time. At least these guys stuck around long enough to record this 7" before splitting off to play in WHITE TRASH, FRANTIX and BUM KON. It's just took 37 years for it to finally be released.

VA - Killed By Hardcore Vol. 5 LP (2026)

It only took 23 years but someone finally put out another Killed By Hardcore comp. Was it done by the same peeps who did the others? Who knows and quite frankly, who cares? When I first saw this online I thought, "Wait... was there a volume four?!" But I'm assuming that would be Killed By Finnish Hardcore which might be why there's no Finnish hardcore on here.

In the days where seemingly everything's been reissued or at least  on YouTube, I was actually surprised to discover some bands that I'd never heard before. Anyways, today's the 15th anniversary of this little music blog so here's my gift to you, CHEERS!!

VA - Oakville Uber Alles CD (2019)

Looking at this corny artwork you're probably thinking this a rockabilly compilation from the 90's or 2000's. But it's actually a collection of rare 80's punk rock and hardcore from Oakville Ontario, a town between Hamilton and Toronto. Of course you'd never know that because there is no information or history on this anywhere, just some tiny low-res photos and Facebook links to some of the bands on the inside cover.

Unfortunately the sound quality matches the layout, especially the NEGATIVE GAIN tracks. It's almost like the files were sourced from Napster circa 1999. Which makes it even funnier considering this CD came out in 2019! But hey, outside of HYPE and the aforementioned NEGATIVE GAIN it's the only place to hear the other three bands so I guess it's better than nothing?

THE SLUGS (WITHOUT A DOUG) - Running Around single (1981)

Much like their current incarnation, this 45 single is Doug And The Slugs minus Doug Bennett. Bassist Steve Bosley handles lead vocals and does an alright job here I guess. The A side is kind of a catchy little number backed up with a Police-influenced reggae tune on the flip side. Strictly for the Slugs completists (if there is such a thing).

NAPRED U PROÅ LOST - 1985 EP (2013)

Early then-unreleased demos by this prolific Serbian Alternative/punk band who formed in '84 and were still around well in the 2000's.

THE DEAD NITTELS - Anti New Wave Liga EP (1983)

If you loved that DEAD NITTELS LP and need more, here's a little four-song 7" by them with the same title (but none of the same songs). Ripped from the 2020 reissue.

THE DEAD NITTELS - Anti New Wave Liga LP (2022)

As much as I love discovering new punk and hardcore, what I love even more is still discovering bands from back in the day for the very first time. Especially ones as great as Austria's THE DEAD NITTELS, who's name is a reference to Heinz Nittel (the head of the Austrian Socialist Party who was assassinated outside of his Vienna home in 1981). This LP is the 40th anniversary reissue of their 1982 "A.N.W.L." cassette (minus the live tracks).

THE DETONATORS - Yer Child's War single (1985)

A little 2 song sampler released between their debut and sophomore album that features a cut from each (despite the back cover stating they're both off the second LP). I still don't own either so this single will have to do for now. More Detonators HERE and HERE.

DOWN SYNDROME - S/T EP (1984)

Hardcore from Edmonton. Bought it cheap because the previous owner cut up the 6 panel foldout cover for some reason.

THE WARDELLS - Der Frühling tape (1986)

You may remember this band's sole vinyl platter I posted back in the fall of 2018. Welllll... after seven and a half years of searching, I finally tracked down another release by them! HUZZAH!!!

BLOEDBAD - Groningen '84 tape (2016)

More mid-80's Dutch Hardcore. Put out by the same label that reissued the C.K.N. demo.

VA - Viva Umkhonto! LP (1987)

Benefit compilation for Umkhonto We Sizwe (the military wing of ANC in South Africa) that featured 13 bands from Europe and the USA. I'm a little bummed my copy didn't come with the 20 page booklet.

VATICAN COMMANDOS - Full Discography 1983-2015 CD (2023)

As per request. Not exactly a full discography here as it's missing some compilation cuts. Either they forgot about 'em or couldn't get permission, who knows and who cares... amirite? And yes I know Moby was their guitarist at one point, but he only played on tracks 1-6 and 40-42.

PLAIN WRAP! - Original Music For A Generic World LP (1985)

Had I not picked up that PLAIN WRAP/MOX NIX split CD last year, I may have flipped past this LP when I saw it in a local shop recently. Glad I didn't because it's a pretty fun album. What I like about it is that every track sounds different without being too all over the place, know what I mean? One gripe I have about punk and hardcore nowadays is the complete opposite. A lot of bands just put out releases where all the songs sound the same without any standouts. Not the case here. If you're into groups like WHITE FLAG, you probably already know about these guys.
