NINTH CONFIGURATION - Vegas tape (1990)
Bought this tape for $5 at a little shop on Vancouver Island last month. Never heard them before but I was familiar with the name and knew they were from Calgary. This was their second and final release before half the band went on to play in FIELD DAY.

VA - Another Shot For Bracken LP (1986)
"This decent North American comp has something for every musical taste: powerful hardcore, funnypunk, melodic rock, reggae, a 70’s cover and a couple of mid-tempo standard tunes. F.O.D., A.O.D., DISSONANCE, and SCRAM stand out from the pack, but there could have been better tracks from the name bands overall."

HARPER SS - S/T EP (2013)
All's I know about Harper SS is that there's at least one member of NO PROBLEM involved. The downside to naming your project after a (then) current Canadian prime minister is that it becomes dated as soon as that PM is no longer in power. Although I thought Trudeau Youth would've been a cool name for a band years after Pierre was gone and before Justin got into politics.

SNFU - Live EP (????)
This bootleg is actually only half "live" because the songs on side 2 are the band's contribution to the 1985 Edmonton comp 'It Came From Innerspace'. For some reason, 'Cannibal Cafe' is not listed on the back cover even though it's the first song.

THE GLORY STOMPERS - S/T 2xEP (1993)
Debut double 7" from this long defunct Edmonton pogo punk outfit. They released another 7" and an LP before trimming down to a 3 piece and becoming a straight up Oi band. Singer Greg later moved to Vancouver and kept the street punk sound in his later projects (Subway Thugs, The Lancasters, Alternate Action and currently Bishops Green).

I've been looking for this comp for a while now and was stoked to find a clean copy recently that wasn't too expensive. The main reason I wanted it was for the Private School EP, although all the bands on here are pretty good. All of these 7"s are still out of print, with the exception of the Spys' single which was reissued by Ugly Pop a couple of years ago. Happy Canaduh Day, hosers!

VA - Only In Canada, Eh 77-81 Volume 1 CD (2005)
Here we have a great compilation of early Canadian punk rock put out by the long abandoned Punk History Canada page. This disc is full of mostly obscure bands from Victoria, British Columbia to St John's, Newfoundland and almost everywhere in between. Many of these songs were previously unreleased and/or appearing on CD for the first time. I know there was talk of making a Volume 2, but considering this came out a decade ago and the PHC site hasn't been updated in almost as long, I don't think it's ever happening.

PERSONALITY CRISIS - Live At The Calgarian (1981-82)
What better way to kick off 2015 than with not one but two live gigs by Personality Crisis? The sound quality isn't too bad, "Piss On You" cuts off at the end and someone accidentally records herself about nine seconds into "Burning Rain". But hey, who cares? Too bad a lot of these songs were never officially released. Tracks 1-14 were recorded sometime in July 1981, and the rest were recorded sometime in 1982. No exact date given. Track titles aren't 100% either, so if anyone knows the correct song names, let me know!

NO REBATE - Dish Pig tape (1986)
Big thanks to Dave Spicer for "accidently" lending me this tape. It was actually supposed to be a live radio session by short-lived 80's Vancouver band NG3. Instead it was taped over with this demo from No Rebate. I've never heard of this Edmonton band before, and unfortunately I couldn't find much about them online. I do believe this is their sole recording. If you like skate punk with metal riffs (and who doesn't?), check it out. I also came across an interview with the band on Soundcloud.
