Benefit compilation for Umkhonto We Sizwe (the military wing of ANC in South Africa) that featured 13 bands from Europe and the USA. I'm a little bummed my copy didn't come with the 20 page booklet.
As per request. Not exactly a full discography here as it's missing some compilation cuts. Either they forgot about 'em or couldn't get permission, who knows and who cares... amirite? And yes I know Moby was their guitarist at one point, but he only played on tracks 1-6 and 40-42.
Had I not picked up that PLAIN WRAP/MOX NIX split CD last year, I may have flipped past this LP when I saw it in a local shop recently. Glad I didn't because it's a pretty fun album. What I like about it is that every track sounds different without being too all over the place, know what I mean? One gripe I have about punk and hardcore nowadays is the complete opposite. A lot of bands just put out releases where all the songs sound the same without any standouts. Not the case here. If you're into groups like WHITE FLAG, you probably already know about these guys.
Quirky Vancouver No Wave/Art punk. Another one of those records I've seen kicking around local shops for years. Bio and family tree stolen from The Bloodied But Unbowed website.
"AKA formed in late '78 or early '79 and lasted until early 1981. Fronted by singer/saxophonist Dennis Mills, they released the Red Therapy 12-inch EP in 1980, and played in Seattle and San Francisco. In 1981, core bandmembers formed Rhythm Mission, who existed until 1989; their career overlapped with the Jazzmanian Devils, featuring Mills and company supporting various guest vocalists (including Vanessa Richards of Bolero Lava, and Madeline Morris of Moev and Family Plot)."
Now back to the Houston Bloody Hammer. You know, the one that dropped that sick EP "When In Rome" back in 2011? Here's the debut 7" and yeah, it also rips!
Since I just posted their LP, may as well put up the demo since it's their only other release. Streetkids is the only one they didn't re-record for the album. It's also happens to be my favourite song of theirs.
Street punk from Melbourne who's members also played in KRÖMOSOM and ENZYME among others. I played this record for the first time in many years last week and forgot just how good it was.
Essential Yugo hardcore punk from what is now Slovenia. Originally released on cassette in 1984 with just a small pressing of 200 copies, but was dubbed many times over due to the band's popularity. It was finally issued on vinyl three decades later with bonus tracks recorded shortly after the tape came out. This rip was taken from the CD version that includes two more songs not on the LP. I believe these were the final recordings with their first singer and founding member Primož Habič, who died in 1991.
