A.O.T. - Music To Eat Lightbulbs By... Demo (1984)

It's funny, had I never posted 'Tales From The Western Shore' the other day, I wouldn't have gotten this demo. Big thanks to Dan Walters, who not only put out that compilation but also played in A.O.T. (Abortions On Toast). This is a better recording than the songs from 'Tales...', recorded at the Plaza's rehearsal space with members of Death Sentence on background vocals. A few guys from A.O.T.(including Dan) ended up in Fratricide. They also recorded a 3 song demo at Ocean Studios in '85 that was recently unearthed and can be found HERE.
1. Baby Bonfire
2. Buttfuck (Fort Langley cowpunk trad.)
3. A.O.T. Chant
4. Which Way Is East
5. Life Sucks
6. Mental Decay
7. It's Not Rape (If She's Already Dead)
8. Reagan's Back

SCHOOLLY D - Gangster Boogie / Maniac 12" (1986)

Although Schoolly-D isn't the greatest rapper in the world, he'll always be one of my all-time favorites. This is his debut single, originally released in 1984 (ripped from a 1986 repress). 'Gangster Boogie' was definitely influenced by Run-DMC's "Sucker MC's", while the flip side "Maniac" sounds like a poor man's "Rockit". Not his most classic material, but I'd still rather listen to this than most of what passes for hip hop nowadays.

THE BLACK NASTY - Self Titled CD (1995)

Short-lived Seattle punk band made up of members of Midnight Idols, Big Top, Beat Senseless and fronted by Blaine Cook (The Fartz, Accüsed, Toe Tag, Denial Fiend). This self-released disc was their only recorded output. Musically (and vocally) it's a bit of a departure from Blaine's other work but still definitely worth a listen.

WITCHES HAMMER - Death Of No Reprieve EP (2004)

As I mentioned in the last post, 'Death Of No Reprieve' was left off the Canadian Speed Metal LP due to space. According to the liner notes of that record, the song was to be included in an upcoming Witches Hammer boxset. I guess that was scrapped, which must have been why it was released as a 7" single instead. The B-side 'Mortalas/Alien Jesus' was taken from an unreleased album recorded in 1988. The rest of that session was finally released in 2005 on the 'Stretching Into Infinity' LP, which also includes their 1987 12" EP.

WITCHES HAMMER - Canadian Speed Metal LP (2003)

Another E-bay score, from Italy of all places. Formed in 1984, Witches Hammer were Vancouver's first thrash metal band. What I like about them is that they don't really sound like anyone else. If I was to describe their sound, I'd say it's almost like thrash being played by a hardcore band but without coming off as 'crossover' or 'metalcore'. If that makes any sense.
This LP compiles their two demo tapes, except for one song (Death Of No Reprieve) because they couldn't fit it on the record. It was mastered directly off the original cassette dubs, but personally I think that's how they were meant to be heard.
