VA - Vancouver Evolution EP (20??)

Bootleg 7" comp of some of the earliest bands in the Vancouver punk scene. These recordings from 1977-79 were never released until the 1991 Zulu Records double CD "Last Call: Vancouver Independent Music 1977-1988". Although these four bands were short lived, key members would soon go on to form D.O.A., Subhumans and the Pointed Sticks to name a few. Supreme Echo Records is currently working on a Stiffs 7" EP that I think will be out later this year or next.

Continuing on with Canadian content month, here's some wicked female-fronted metal crust from Montreal. Well, not some but all as this tape compiles everything they put out(hence the title). Singer Janick Varning is currently fronting Parasytes, go check that shit out.

TERMINAL STATE - Sick EP (2007)

Toronto's been cranking out heaps of great HC bands for years now and these guys were no exception. I know at least one dude from Terminal State later played two other killer T-dot bands, School Jerks and Kremlin. They also have another 7" available as well as a 12"EP and a demo. There's mention on the Deranged Records site about a CD discography in the works, but that was from 2007 so I'm going to assume it's either taking a realllly long time to for it come out or it was scrapped altogether.

Since Canada just turned the big 150, I thought I'd change things up and post this nation's first rap record. Although technically I think the first Canadian hip hop release was the 1987 compilation "Break'n Out" that was produced by KRS-One and Scott La Rock of BDP. Still, I gotta wonder what took so long for something to come out here especially considering how geographically close Toronto was to NYC.

MENTAL RESCUE - Straightjacket tape (2009)

Debut release by what I'm assuming is a studio side project featuring Chany from Inepsy on vocals and Jo Galipeau from Germ Attak playing all the instruments. This sounds nothing those aforementioned bands, instead what you get here is short fast HC that almost sounds like it was written on the spot. They also released a couple of 7"s, (one of them limited to a whopping 23 copies) that can be heard here.
